When writing on a Dom Kennedy album, or any Dom Kennedy release in general, its particularly challenging because you will never be writing about some big change in sound, a transformation in style or some unforseen addition to lyrical style. In fact, if you are looking for a new sound from Kennedy on any subsequent release, you are sadly mistaken. Kennedy has one of the strong stylistic consistencies in delivery, production and presentation of any hip hop artist that is […]
Save Money, The Social Experiment, Donnie Trumpet, Nico Segal, Chance the Rapper. These names, some of which characterize the same people, also characterize a particular sound which is making itself prominent in the hip-hop scene, a sound that we are hearing on recent releases from artists such as Kendrick Lamar and Mick Jenkins, and sound which is arguably more organic than much of the other hip hop music hitting the shelves these days. We first heard Nico Segal, who goes […]

In the midst of a wide dichotomy that has seeped into the Chicago hip-hop and rap music scene, we are seeing more and more artists coming out to not only make their mark, but to also make it crystal clear which side they are playing for. The drill scene emerged from the gritty and hardened roots of Chicago’s South and West side, tales of gun violence and life in crime ridden hoods told by the likes of Chief Keef and […]
Kendrick P. is a new artist from Memphis looking to make major moves in the coming year. He will be successful at this due to his newly released project called MUSex. This is a 6 track project and what is remarkable about it is that this is Kendrick’s first official project. He displays a great ear for selecting good production and instrumentals that fit his theme. One of the standout tracks of this project is “Australian Kisses”. This song is radio-ready […]
Kaydee brings us his newest project The Transition. The tape includes 21 tracks of great production that matches Kaydee’s brash delivery well. Listen to Kaydee’s The Transition below.
Travi$ Scott releases the second video from his project Days Before Rodeo. “Mamacita” is the second track on the mixtape and features Rich Homie Quan and Young Thug. The video is strange, but this expected from Travi$. T.I. can be spotted throughout the video shooting dice. Watch the video above.
BJ The Chicago Kid has released a new mixtape called The M.A.F.E. Project. The tape includes 11 tracks. With a few soulful treats, BJ is clearly trying to establish himself as an urban R&B artist. From start to finish you will be thoroughly impressed. The creativity he displays immediately on “Strawberry Bubblegum” is something worth hearing.
